You can make movement a part of your everyday lifestyle. We can be a helpful resource that gets you back in the swing of moving and/or gives your movement some purposeful direction.
Hi there, Haleigh here. Above are the many faces/phases of me that have brought me to where I am today.
I grew up swimming competitively from the age of 7. Swimming has always held a special place in my heart. It taught me to set goals, work as a teammate and set high expectations of myself. My parents owned a swim club growing up so I spent all summer at the pool. I started teaching lessons with my mom at the age of 10 and started helping coach on the pool deck around the age of 15. I swam collegiately for the University of Kentucky which led me to meeting my husband and eventually moving to Florida.
After graduating with a Masters in Accounting and passing the CPA exam, I entered into “adult life” going about my merry way doing taxes all day, until I realized something was missing. I missed the joy I got out of coaching. I missed connecting with people to help them meet their goals. I missed movement being a part of my daily routine.
I shifted what I was doing within accounting and felt more fulfillment doing accounting for a nonprofit’s mission I fully supported. I also reintroduced coaching into my life, returning to the pool deck part time and reclaiming a part of what I loved… then came babies!
After having two babies, finding time for a workout was one of the last things on my list. I was working and nursing and juggling schedules and constantly arranging and rearranging childcare. As the kids reached slightly less demanding ages, I slowly incorporating movement back into my life. I started to ask my husband if he would write workouts to get me back into the weight room. The weight room was always a place that brought me joy and made me feel like my strongest self throughout college, but now I felt a little lost when I walked in there. Can I still do what I did in college? Is that even safe now? Where do I start? What are my goals?
I’ve spent the last 4 years slowly figuring that out. Rebuilding my strength, challenging myself to lift heavier and soaking in education and technique along the way. I started pelvic floor therapy, which helped me learn what happens to the female body as you have a baby, what goes “back to normal”, what doesn’t and the best way to protect your core in the gym. I realized that my goals changed and lifting weights now meant doing it for the long haul, doing it for a healthier lifestyle, doing it for more muscle mass, doing it to be a more active mother. After taking a break from my accounting job and sitting in stillness for a bit, I tried to dig deep into what makes me “tick”. The answer to that was pretty clear: coaching. I am excited to dive into this new journey in a familiar place. I have been in and out of the weight room since college. I have been consistently back in and learning for the last 4 years. I look forward to spending more time there helping others find their strength, reach their goals and feel a sense of direction and intention in their workouts.
